Nissan 240SX 89-98 Racing Short Shifter Gunmetal

Following are some simple steps installation guide:

Removal of stock shift knob

Look at your stock shifter. It comes off by unscrewing it (rotate it counter-clockwise).

Dismantling the interior

With the knob off, reach under the shift boot and pull back and upward to disengage the pins holding the interior panel/ console on. It should pop right out, without much fuss at all.

Remove the clip/wiring harness going to the A/C controls

A small screwdriver is nice to have to push the retaining clip back so it pops out. DO NOT FORCE It! Also, of particular note, this is a ribbon cable. Anyone who knows computers knows that you must not pull on these, or they break easily. Be careful.

Removing shifter coverings

OK, so you got the panel off and you see a fuzzy foam thing. That comes right off. Once removed you’ll see the stock secondary shift boot and retaining plate. There are four bolts holding the shift boot onto the transmission tunnel. These are easily removed with a 10mm socket, ratchet and 6” extension.Now, with that removed you should see a second boot covering the shifter assembly. That just pops off. That will reveal the triangular plants holding your shifter in.

Now you can see the stock retaining plate. Pay particular note to where the reverse lockout in faces! The bolts are 10mm. Very simple to remove. Again, ratchet, extension and a 10mm socket, should be easy. Be sure to keep the top shifter plate (triangle thing with 3 bolts in it).

First, Jack up the car (you can do the entire car if you like, but we only needed to lift up the one side to get access to it. You’ll see another boot covering the linkage, remove that. There’s a single 12mm bolt holding the shifter in at this point, you can see it above the composite driveshaft (refer to the install manual for this). A stubby ratchet and 12mm socket are all you need. Once it comes loose, the shifter will pop up about 2” in the air, because of the spring underneath it that you can’t see at this point. Don’t worry, that’s normal. Just get back out from under the car and remove everything (including the spring).

Installing the new unit

Now that everything is lubed all nice; assemble the shifter per the instructions. It’s quite simple. Be sure to press the O-ring into the recess on the shifter. Then drop the shifter in, being sure to put the spring in first! Hand-tightening the Allen-head bolts on to ensure it doesn’t move around.

Attaching the shift linkage

Reinstall the 12mm bolt that you removed previously. This should be pretty easy. Make sure you torque it down decently. Then pull the shift linkage boot back up over the assembly. There’s a small groove in the base of the shifter casing that it sits on, this can be a pain in the butt.

Reinstall the smaller triangle shift boot nice and snug.

Reinstalling the larger shift boot, and tighten down the four 10mm bolts going across from each other to ensure proper torque.

Finally, plug the harness back into the console piece, and reinstall but sliding the tabs at the front of it underneath the notches in the dash, and press it back into place. Reinstall the shift knob, and you’re done! Enjoy your new, even shorter-shifting 240SX!

Tools Needed For Installation

Step 1.

Take the JDM badge and floor mats out of the box.

Step 2.

Unscrew all the nuts and rings on the back of the JDM badge.

Step 3.

Find the two holes on the back of the floor mats and put the JDM beginner badge throw the holes.

Step 4.

Place the ring in first on both screws then finish off by screwing the nuts back on to the JDM beginners badge.

Step 5.

Make sure all the nuts are tight and you’re finished.

Step 1.

Use the alcohol pad to clean the area shown in the pictures before installation.  This will help the m3 tape stick on to the vehicle.

Step 2.

Use the tube shown in the picture as a primer before installing the sliding window curtains.  Let the alcohol dry from the area you cleaned and then apply content of the tube to the cleaned area.  We recommend using a q-tip or a small towel.

Step 3.

Start removing the end caps on the rails then remove the stoppers.

Step 4.

Remove the red paper shielding the m3 tape then bring the rail to vehicle and place it at the desired area in which you want the curtain to be on the vehicle.  Make sure you place it carefully in the area of desire because if you mess up, taking it off to be replace is very difficult.  When the rail is placed in the perfect area, press down firm to secure the rail to the vehicle’s door panel.

Step 5.

You will now need to put the hooks through the rail. Start with the bottom and the top.

Step 6.

Now all you need to do to finish everything off is put in the locking caps then the ends caps on the rails and you’re done.  Don’t forget to add the sliding window curtain holder to the window frame.

In 1988 the Civic EC was created with increased dimensions and a lower hood line.  This generation Honda Civic was the turning point in design for the years to come.  When it was released in the US, the EC featured fuel injection, and a fully independent rear suspension.  Over the years, in my opinion this car still looks great.  With it’s low price range it makes a great project car.

Finding car parts these days is pretty easy, either you find them on a dependable website or you take your chances with Ebay.  Even though the fourth generation Honda Civic is a older car, there are still tons of parts.  Starting with the interior, changing the steering wheel is a piece of cake, all you need is a hub adapter to connect the steering wheel to the car.

I would also change the intake system under the hood.  I personally like the short ram intakes, but that’s just my personal opinion.  There are also cold air intakes for this Honda Civic.  There are so many other things you can do, like add a aftermarket exhaust system, change out the headlights, lower the car with springs. and get new carbon side mirrors.  Whatever you plan on doing to your ride, just make sure you’re having fun doing it.
